What does “vore” mean?
Vore is the fetishization of the consumption of a human person, often while the “victim” is still alive. This can involve catching a tiny voyeur, baking or cooking the “eatee,” and many other variables.
Is vore cannibalism?
Yes and no. Merriam-Webster defines cannibalism as “the eating of the flesh of an animal by another animal of the same kind.” By that definition, vore does have a cannibalistic aspect to it.
When performed in certain cultures, cannibalism can serve ritualistic purposes. Cannibalism has also been the trademark M.O. of certain serial killers throughout history, such as Albert Fish or Jeffrey Dahmer. In these regards, the vore fetish differs drastically from cannibalism. While ritual, spiritual, or snuff themes could coincide with vore scenes, they do not rely upon one another.
Put simply, vore is cannibalism in the sense that it depicts one human devouring another. The scenario can vary greatly depending on the interests and fantasies of the parties involved. But in my experience, the scene is rarely one akin to that of Dahmer, Hannibal Lecter, or anything you see commonly in media. It is often more domestic and casual in nature, as you’ll see later on in this post.
Hard vore vs soft vore
While kink is a spectrum (that applies to all fetishes), there are two main categories that vore fantasies can fall into: hard vore and soft vore. While they may both involve human consumption, the details of these scenes will be drastically different.
Soft Vore
As the most common of the two (in my experience), soft vore involves the consumption of a live human “victim,” who miraculously survives the entire ordeal. Details of the scene will often include licking, sucking, slurping, tasting, and eventually swallowing whole the victim. Individuals who enjoy soft vore usually derive pleasure from both the eating process as well as the ingestion and digestion process: the sliding down the gullet and sloshing into the stomach… and eventually perhaps even the complete excretion of the victim into the toilet. But more on that later.
Hard Vore
Slightly less common (but no less fun), is hard vore. This differs from soft vore in one major aspect: the gore. In addition to licking, sucking, and slurping, this victim wants to be bitten, smashed, crunched, chewed, and overall obliterated. This violent process an end there with the destruction of the eatee, or it can continue as with soft vore through the ingestion, digestion, and excretion process. Ultimately it is up to the parties involved to decide how their story will play out.
Vore and giantess

I understand the confusion. It’s important to remember that vore is a fantasy, not something that can be done in real life. Keeping this in mind, the imagination allows one person to be fully consumed by another, either by chewing or swallowing whole. The giantess fantasy is a common comorbidity found with the vore fetish, often to enhance and facilitate the scene.
The giantess fetish involves a large woman with a tiny sub (this can be accomplished either through microphilia or macrophilia, but that’s for a different post). By having the eater much larger than the eatee, it becomes much easier to visualize the full control over and eating of a tiny victim.
Digestion & excretion in vore
Depending on the interests of the playing parties, vore can include full digestion and excretion. This can be visualized in the journey through the stomach and intestines before finally ending up in the toilet bowl.
This sounds like a messy process, but it doesn’t have to be. Language and visuals can place emphasis on the journey and its sensations, rather than the dirty details. Alternatively, this can get as graphic as the playing parties (and local legalities, in the case of video content) allow.
